The Mystery of the Browser-Specific Printing Side with Your MFC L2740 Printer: What Causes It and How to Fix It

Question:

Why does my printer print on different sides of the paper depending on the browser I use?

I use a MFC L2740 printer with double sided printing option. I have only one printer and driver installed on my computer. However, when I print a single page with a small picture or text from Internet Explorer or Chrome, the printer prints on opposite sides of the paper. This is not a double sided printing issue. Is there a browser setting that causes this problem? How can I fix it?

Answer:

If you have a printer with a double sided printing option, you might expect it to print on the same side of the paper regardless of the browser you use. However, some users have reported that their printer prints on different sides of the paper when they use Internet Explorer or Chrome. This can be confusing and frustrating, especially if you want to print multiple pages or documents. What causes this problem and how can you fix it?

The problem is not related to the printer itself, but to the browser settings. Different browsers have different ways of handling the print options, such as orientation, margins, scaling, and duplex mode. Duplex mode is the setting that determines whether the printer prints on both sides of the paper or not. If the duplex mode is not consistent across the browsers, the printer will print on different sides of the paper depending on the browser you use.

To fix this problem, you need to make sure that the duplex mode is the same for all the browsers you use. Here are the steps to check and change the duplex mode for Internet Explorer and Chrome:

  • – For Internet Explorer, click the

Tools icon (the gear icon) at the top right corner of the browser window, and select Print > Print Preview. In the print preview window, click the Page Setup button (the gear icon) at the top left corner. In the page setup dialog box, look for the Print on both sides option under the Paper tab. If the option is checked, uncheck it. If the option is unchecked, check it. Click OK

to save the changes and close the dialog box.

  • – For Chrome, click the

Menu icon (the three dots) at the top right corner of the browser window, and select Print. In the print dialog box, look for the More settings section and expand it if needed. Look for the Duplex printing option under the Options section. If the option is on, turn it off. If the option is off, turn it on. Click Print

to save the changes and close the dialog box.

  • After you have changed the duplex mode for both browsers, try printing a test page from each browser and see if the printer prints on the same side of the paper. If the problem persists, you might need to update your printer driver or contact your printer manufacturer for support.
