Question:
What is the cause and solution of the intermittent chirping/buzzing noise from my laptop when idle?
I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3-15IMH05 laptop that is about three years old. It produces a chirping/buzzing noise when it is not performing any tasks, but the noise stops or changes when I open an application, play a game, or scroll a webpage. The noise seems to originate from the left side of the keyboard, near the Q key, where the power, LAN, HDMI, USB ports, CPU, and RAM are located. There is a small component on the motherboard in that area that I do not recognize. There are no fans or drives in that area. I have tried disconnecting all the peripherals, but the noise persists. I have recorded the noise and uploaded it to this link: https://voca.ro/1673VyZ2kqGj
Can you please help me identify the source and the solution of this noise? Is it a sign of a hardware failure or a software issue? How can I fix it or prevent it from happening?
