No More “Big Papa”: How to Change Your Google Assistant Settings

How can I reset the nickname that I assigned to myself on Google Assistant? I used a humorous name (“big papa”) a long time ago and now it is showing up on other apps that use my Google account.

How to Change Your Nickname on Google Assistant

Google Assistant is a smart and helpful feature that can make your life easier by performing various tasks, answering questions, and providing information. However, sometimes you may want to change the way Google Assistant addresses you, especially if you have given yourself a nickname that you no longer like or want to use.

For example, you may have told Google Assistant to call you “big papa” as a joke with a friend, but now you find it embarrassing or inappropriate when it shows up on other apps that use your Google account, such as Remind, Gmail, or Google Photos.

Fortunately, changing your nickname on Google Assistant is not difficult, and you can do it in a few simple steps. Here is how:

To access the settings of Google Assistant, you need to open the Google app on your phone or tablet, and tap on the More icon at the bottom right corner. Then, tap on Settings, and select Google Assistant.

Alternatively, you can also launch Google Assistant by saying “Hey Google” or by swiping up from the bottom left or right corner of your screen (depending on your device). Then, tap on the Snapshot icon at the bottom left corner, and tap on your Profile Picture at the top right corner. Then, tap on Assistant Settings.

Step 2: Tap on You

Once you are in the Google Assistant settings, you will see a list of categories, such as Assistant, Services, Home, and Routines. Tap on the first category, You, to access your personal information and preferences.

Step 3: Tap on Nickname

Under the You category, you will see a section called Basic Info, which contains your name, email, phone number, and nickname. Tap on Nickname to edit the way Google Assistant calls you.

Step 4: Enter a New Nickname

You will see a screen that shows your current nickname, and a field where you can enter a new one. You can also choose to use your real name instead of a nickname by tapping on the toggle switch next to Use your own name.

To enter a new nickname, simply type it in the field, and tap on OK. You can also tap on the Speaker icon to hear how Google Assistant will pronounce your new nickname, and adjust the spelling if needed.

Step 5: Enjoy Your New Nickname

That’s it! You have successfully changed your nickname on Google Assistant. Now, whenever you interact with Google Assistant, it will address you by your new nickname, and it will also show up on other apps that use your Google account.

You can always change your nickname again by following the same steps, or by saying “Hey Google, change my nickname”. You can also ask Google Assistant to tell you your nickname by saying “Hey Google, what is my nickname?”.
